The home is a place of joy and comfort. But I still think that the home is a place that has the potential to become a place of discomfort. If you think about it, most of our homes are not designed with comfort in mind. Our homes are designed with the intent of being comfortable. It is the opposite of the home. I think that, for many people, the home is an extension of themselves.
I think it is because so many of us are obsessed with the idea of keeping up appearances. We’ve all heard that “if you do not look nice you will not last.” We may be able to get away with it on a day to day basis, but when it comes to the home and our homes, we often feel as if we’re going to be judged or judged on how we look. We think that we need to be perfect for our family, friends, or ourselves.
Yes, many people are. But I think we miss the point. We can spend so much time at home and not develop the habits we need to be at home, and that is a problem. We do not do things that are necessary like walking the dog, washing the car, cooking, laundry, or cleaning. All of these things we can get done in our own homes. They are things that we do at home, and need to do at home.
This may not be the exact right word, but I call it the home maintenance mindset. We tend to think that we have to be perfect at everything. We think that we can’t cook a good meal, wash a good laundry, do any of the household chores. We think this because we have never tried. That is the mindset that is perpetuating the problem that we have.
