What is your favorite summer side dish?
If you said macaroni salad, then this blog post is for you. Macaroni salad has been a popular dish in the United States since the late 1800s. It was created by Italian immigrants who were trying to make a pasta salad that could be eaten with their hands (think picnic food). Today, it can be found at picnics and potluck dinners all over the country. But what do you do with leftovers? There are some great ways to use up leftover macaroni salads so they don’t go bad. One of those ways is freezing them! Read on to find out how! Step-by-step guide to freezing macaroni salad:
Cook and drain the pasta.
Do not add any dressing yet.
Mix in one of these dressings if desired (vinegar, mayonnaise, or Miracle Whip).
Package the mixture according to your freezer’s guidelines; we usually recommend dividing into single servings for easy use later on.
Place it in a dish with an inch of water and seal tightly with plastic wrap before placing it back in its original container. This will ensure that there is no change in quality when you thaw out the frozen food at a later date. Place them inside another sealed bag just to be safe from leaks as well.
